ALTWINES

Founded by Marc Sachs and Vitor Bento in early 2019, began with a beer, Birrenta, created by Marc Sachs and Dirk Niepoort. In mid-2019, Miguel Silva joined the team, and the project truly took off.

We are three wine lovers and partners in this adventure, hailing from diverse backgrounds but united by a shared passion for exceptional wines. Among us, we have a Beer Master, a young and talented Winemaker, and a wine enthusiast who also flies long-haul aircraft for a living.

Transmission is more than just a wine. It is an homage to the timeless art of winemaking in Bairrada, Portugal. This project meticulously follows traditional winemaking methods, preserving the authenticity and character of the region. We source our white grapes from a hidden vineyard nestled in the heart of a Bairrada forest, while our red grapes come from two distinct plots of very old vines, over 100 years old. These are very special grapes, untouched by modern agricultural practices.

Transmission captures the essence of Bairrada's terroir. Each bottle tells a story of symbiosis between nature and craftsmanship, where the vines thrive protected by trees, and the low intervention winemaking process is guided by tradition rather than technology. It echoes the whispers of generations past and the enduring legacy of winemaking that refuses to be forgotten. Transmission is a wine that transcends time, conveying culture, heritage, and passion from the vineyards and cellars of Bairrada.
